Bear Creek Lake State Park is accepting applications for a Beach Area Ranger position. Individuals should be dependable and motivated, thrive in a team environment, follow directions well, and also perform tasks independently with minimal supervision.

Job Summary:

The Beach Area Ranger performs the preparation and service of Concession food items as well as operating the cash register for food, merchandise, and equipment rental sales. In addition, Beach Area Rangers assist Park guests with boat rentals. Ensuring guests are given the correct watercraft and are issued and wearing the required safety equipment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Preparing and serving food, washing dishes, and keeping the kitchen area and equipment clean and operable.
Performing upkeep of concession exterior to include sweeping the deck, cleaning tables, and removing trash and litter.
Handling boat rentals and maintaining the boat rental log.
Demonstrating great interpersonal skills to ensure the highest level of customer service is maintained at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge of basic math and ability to legibly complete daily paperwork.
Ability to observe and practice safe food handling practices per ServSafe guidelines.
Must be able to work well with other staff and park guests.
Availability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Additional Considerations:

Previous food service experience.

Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

- Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
- Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night before a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts are included; one-night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
