Union volunteers to put finishing touches on York River State Park universal access project Nov. 18
JAMES CITY COUNTY – Volunteers from the Union Sportsmen's Alliance will complete a York River State Park trail project Monday, Nov. 18. The project makes some of the park's most panoramic views of the York River and Taskinas Creek more easily accessible to persons with disabilities. The project is the first Virginia State Park project made possible by a new national Adopt-A-Park program from the alliance headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee. The alliance is a national organization that is affiliated with the AFL-CIO with a mission to educate, conserve, and volunteer in partnership with managers of America's public lands.
Who:
Union Sportsmen's Alliance volunteers
Joe Elton, State Parks Director, Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation
Jon Tustin, York River State Park Manager, DCR

Volunteers will complete repaving damaged areas of the park's popular Bluebird Loop trail, offering views of the confluence of the York River and Taskinas Creek. Workers from several unions in the Tidewater and Washington, D.C. have removed roots and numerous trip hazards in repairing the trail, making it safe for visitors with limited mobility.
There will be opportunities to interview volunteers and park staff, plus photo
opportunities of trail work in progress.
